Taxonomy

Collection 1000327 (herbarium acc. no. MICH 10734) is Hebeloma velatum. It is the holotype of heterotypic synonym Hebeloma bicoloratum var. coloradense A.H. Sm., V.S. Evenson & Mitchel (1983).

Description

Collecting details

Collection 1000327 was collected by A.H. Smith, H.D. Thiers (89594) on 29th July 1979 in Pitkin County, Elk Camp, Colorado, UNITED STATES (approx. 39.1875°N, 106.9352°W, altitude approximately 3000 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Pinaceae (genus Picea) was present.
The surrounding habitat was described as coniferous, subalpine woodland, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules. Pileus: 20–40 mm diameter; shape convex; margin characters not recorded; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting not recorded; hygrophanous no; colour variation unicolor; with colour at centre clay-buff; and colour at margin not recorded; with remains of universal veil yes.
Lamellae: attachment adnate, emarginate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 40; tears absent; white fimbriate edge not recorded.
Stipe: 40–60 x 6–10 {median} x 6–10 {basal} mm; stipe Q 6.0–6.7; base cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.
Context: texture firm; stipe interior not recorded; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 11.2; smell not recorded; taste not recorded.

Cheilocystidia: main shape lageniform, ventricose; special features many collapsed in exsiccata, septa; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.20; A/B = 0.74; B/M = 1.64.
