Collection 1000457 (herbarium acc. no. MICH 10784) is Hebeloma velutipes. It is the holotype of heterotypic synonym Hebeloma pallidoargillaceum A.H. Sm., V.S. Evenson & Mitchel (1983).

    Collection 1000457 was collected by A.H. Smith (90600) on 28th August 1980 in Elk Camp, Burnt Mountain, Pitkin County, Colorado, UNITED STATES (approx. 39.1875°N, 106.9352°W, altitude approximately 3000 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Pinaceae (genera Picea and Abies) was present.

    The surrounding habitat was described as coniferous, subalpine woodland, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     Pileus: 40–50 mm diameter; shape convex, umbonate; margin characters fibrillose; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting no; hygrophanous no; colour variation two-colour; with colour at centre clay-buff; and colour at margin pinkish buff; with remains of universal veil yes.

    Lamellae: attachment adnate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 42; tears absent; white fimbriate edge present.

    Stipe: 40–70 x 8–10 {median} x 8–10 {basal} mm; stipe Q 5.0–7.0; base cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior hollow; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 7.4; smell raphanoid strongly; taste raphanoid strongly.

    Basidia: 31.8–37.1 x 7.0–8.6 μm; ave. Q = 4.4; basidia spore nature not recorded.

    Cheilocystidia: main shape gently clavate, clavate-lageniform or clavate-ventricose; special features conglutinate, yellow contents; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.83; A/B = 2.28; B/M = 0.96.

    Pleurocystidia: no.
