Collection 1000369 was collected by A.H. Smith (86922) on 27th July 1976 in Pitkin County, Independence Pass area, Colorado, UNITED STATES (approx. 39.1089°N, 106.5639°W, altitude approximately 3650 m above sea level - Google maps). No ectomycorrhizal plants were recorded.
The surrounding habitat was described as subalpine woodland with a substrate of soil, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules. Pileus: 30–50 mm diameter; shape convex, umbonate strongly; margin characters fibrillose; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting no; hygrophanous no; colour variation two-colour; with colour at centre yellowish brown; and colour at margin not recorded; with remains of universal veil yes.
Lamellae: attachment adnate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 49; tears absent; white fimbriate edge weak.
Stipe: 40–60 x 5–9 {median} x 5–9 {basal} mm; stipe Q 6.7–8.0; base cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose, pruinose at apex; rooting no; mycelial chords no.
Context: texture firm; stipe interior hollow; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 9.3; smell raphanoid; taste mild.
