Collection 16859 was collected by T. Slaymaker on 12th August 2017 in Moose Hill, Breton, Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA (53.1422°N, 114.6097°W, altitude approximately 805 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal families Pinaceae (genus Picea) and Salicaceae (genus Populus) were present.
The surrounding habitat was described as mixed woodland with a substrate of soil, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules. Pileus: up to 65 mm diameter; shape umbonate broadly; margin characters involute; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting not recorded; hygrophanous not recorded; colour variation unicolor; with colour at centre cinnamon; and colour at margin not recorded; with remains of universal veil not recorded.
Lamellae: attachment emarginate; maximum depth up to 9 mm; number of complete lamellae 88; tears visible with naked eye; white fimbriate edge present.
Stipe: 105 x 11 {median} x 18 {basal} mm; stipe Q 9.5; base clavate; floccosity floccose, floccose at apex; rooting no; mycelial chords yes.
Context: texture firm; stipe interior hollow; stipe flesh discolouring from base no; slenderness measure 15.4; smell cocoa; taste not recorded.
Spore deposit colour: umber.

Basidia: 36.0–41.5 x 8.6–10.0 μm; ave. Q = 4.3; basidia spore nature not recorded.
Cheilocystidia: main shape gently clavate, clavate-lageniform or clavate-ventricose; special features septa; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.72; A/B = 1.76; B/M = 1.02.
Pleurocystidia: no.
