Collection 1000482 (herbarium acc. no. MICH 10802) is Hebeloma alpinicola. It is the holotype of heterotypic synonym Hebeloma subcapitatum A.H. Sm., V.S. Evenson & Mitchel (1983).

    Collection 1000482 was collected by J.F. Ammirati (AHS89093), det: A.H. Smith (89093) on 21st August 1978 in Independence Pass area, Pitkin County, Colorado, UNITED STATES (approx. 39.1099°N, 106.5768°W, altitude approximately 3500 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Pinaceae (genus Picea) was present.

    The surrounding habitat was described as coniferous, subalpine woodland, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     Pileus: 10–30 mm diameter; shape convex; margin characters involute; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting no; hygrophanous no; colour variation unicolor; with colour at centre cinnamon; and colour at margin not recorded; with remains of universal veil yes.

    Lamellae: attachment not recorded; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 34; tears absent; white fimbriate edge present.

    Stipe: 15–30 x 4–5 {median} x 4–5 {basal} mm; stipe Q 3.8–6.0; base cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior not recorded; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 5.8; smell none; taste none.

    Spores: shape ellipsoid; colour through microscope very pale; guttulate no; papillate no; Spore Code: O1; P0; D0.

    Basidia: 22.6–31.8 x 6.0–8.6 μm; ave. Q = 3.7; basidia spore nature not recorded.

    Cheilocystidia: main shape gently clavate, clavate-lageniform or clavate-ventricose, lageniform, ventricose; special features many collapsed in exsiccata; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.43; A/B = 0.90; B/M = 1.64.

    Pleurocystidia: only close to lamella edge.
