Collection 1000338 (herbarium acc. no. DBG-F-002473) is Hebeloma alpinicola. It is the holotype of heterotypic synonym Hebeloma chapmaniae A.H. Sm., V.S. Evenson & Mitchel [as "chapmanae"] (1983).

    Collection 1000338 was collected by S. Chapman on 10th September 1969 in Park County, Pike National Forest, Sacramento, west of Fairplay, north side of old house, Colorado, UNITED STATES (approx. 39.2237°N, 106.1172°W, altitude approximately 3600 m above sea level - Google maps). No ectomycorrhizal plants were recorded.

    The surrounding habitat was described as subalpine woodland with a substrate of mossy, rich soil, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     Pileus: up to 30 mm diameter; shape convex, umbonate; margin characters not recorded; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting yes; hygrophanous no; colour variation unicolor; with colour at centre not recorded; and colour at margin clay-buff; with remains of universal veil no.

    Lamellae: attachment emarginate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 48; tears absent; white fimbriate edge absent.

    Stipe: 50 x 5 {median} x 5 {basal} mm; stipe Q 10.0; base cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior not recorded; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 16.7; smell raphanoid; taste bitter.
