Collection 1000427 (herbarium acc. no. MICH 10770) is Hebeloma alpinicola. It is the holotype of heterotypic synonym Hebeloma mesophaeum var. fluviatile A.H. Sm., V.S. Evenson & Mitchel (1983).Description

Collection 1000427 was collected by A.H. Smith (89471) on 15th July 1979 in Pitkin, Elk Camp, Burnt Mountain, Colorado, UNITED STATES (approx. 39.1875°N, 106.9352°W, altitude approximately 3000 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Salicaceae (genus Populus) was present.
The surrounding habitat was described as subalpine woodland streamside, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules. Pileus: 15–40 mm diameter; shape convex, umbonate; margin characters not recorded; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting not recorded; hygrophanous no; colour variation unicolor; with colour at centre yellowish brown; and colour at margin not recorded; with remains of universal veil yes.
Lamellae: attachment adnate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 40; tears absent; white fimbriate edge not recorded.
Stipe: 20–40 x 2–5 {median} x 2–5 {basal} mm; stipe Q 8.0–10.0; base cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.
Context: texture firm; stipe interior not recorded; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 10.7; smell none; taste not recorded.
Spore deposit colour: clay-buff.
