Collection 12116 (herbarium acc. no. BR 5020184123505) is the epitype of Hebeloma ischnostylum.

    Collection 12116 was collected by R. Newton on 16th October 2007 in Les Espagnols, Alpes-Maritimes, FRANCE (43.5089°N, 6.7935°E, altitude approximately 200 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Salicaceae (genera Populus and Salix) was present.

    The surrounding habitat was described as mixed woodland with a substrate of bare soil, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     Cortina present: no.

    Pileus: 19–46 mm diameter; shape umbonate; margin characters smooth; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting no; hygrophanous no; colour variation unicolor; with colour at centre pale yellow, pale cream; and colour at margin not recorded; with remains of universal veil no.

    Lamellae: attachment emarginate; maximum depth up to 4 mm; number of complete lamellae 57; tears visible with x10 lens; white fimbriate edge present.

    Stipe: 30–62 x 3–7 {median} x 5–9 {basal} mm; stipe Q 8.7–10.2; base clavate, cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose, floccose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior hollow; stipe flesh discolouring from base no; slenderness measure 15.7; smell sacchariolentia, sweet; taste not recorded.

    Spore deposit colour: brownish olive.

    Exsiccata: normal.

    Spores: shape amygdaloid, fusoid; colour through microscope brown; guttulate yes; papillate weak; Spore Code: O3; P2; D3; D4.

    Basidia: 33.5–38.0 x 7.3–8.2 μm; ave. Q = 4.7; basidia spore nature not recorded.

    Cheilocystidia: main shape gently clavate; special features bifurcate, clamped septa; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.65; A/B = 2.13; B/M = 0.82.

    Pleurocystidia: no.

    Ixocutis: epicutis thickness (measured from exsiccata) 125 μm; ixocutis maximum hyphae width 6 μm; ixocutis hyphae encrustation no; shape of trama elements beneath subcutis cylindrical, ellipsoid up to 25 μm wide.

    Caulocystidia: analysis not yet complete.
