Collecting details

Collection 11981 was collected by H.J. Beker, M.L. Beker on 13th August 2007 in Bjorndalen, SVALBARD (78.2208°N, 15.3332°E, altitude approximately 55 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Salicaceae (genus Salix) was present.
The surrounding habitat was described as arctic tundra pastureland with a substrate of acidic, mossy soil, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules. Macroscopic description
Cortina present: yes.
Pileus: 15–17 mm diameter; shape umbilicate; margin characters smooth; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting no; hygrophanous no; colour variation two-colour; with colour at centre dark brick; and colour at margin dark pinkish buff; with remains of universal veil no.
Lamellae: attachment emarginate; maximum depth up to 4 mm; number of complete lamellae 31; tears absent; white fimbriate edge present.
Stipe: 27–31 x 2–3 {median} x 2–3 {basal} mm; stipe Q 9.0–15.5; base cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.
Context: texture firm; stipe interior hollow; stipe flesh discolouring from base weak; slenderness measure 23.5; smell not recorded; taste raphanoid weakly.

Microscopic description

Spores: shape amygdaloid; colour through microscope yellow brown; guttulate no; papillate no; Spore Code: O2; P0; D2.

Basidia: 27.4–35.7 x 8.9–10.5 μm; ave. Q = 3.3; basidia spore nature not recorded.

Cheilocystidia: main shape lageniform, ventricose; special features not recorded; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.25; A/B = 0.58; B/M = 2.20.

Pleurocystidia: no.
