Collecting details

Collection 11171 was collected by S. Kelly on 22nd August 2005 in Loch an Eilein, Easterness, SCOTLAND (57.1524°N, 3.8199°W, altitude approximately 250 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal families Betulaceae (genus Betula) and Pinaceae (genus Pinus) were present.
The surrounding habitat was described as boreal, coniferous woodland with a substrate of mossy soil, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules. Macroscopic description
Cortina present: no.
Pileus: 36–53 mm diameter; shape umbonate; margin characters smooth; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting no; hygrophanous no; colour variation unicolor; with colour at centre yellowish brown; and colour at margin dark pinkish buff; with remains of universal veil no.
Lamellae: attachment emarginate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 70; tears absent; white fimbriate edge present.
Stipe: 58–64 x 5–6 {median} x 6–13 {basal} mm; stipe Q 10.7–11.6; base bulbous, clavate; floccosity pruinose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.
Context: texture firm; stipe interior not recorded; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 15.8; smell raphanoid; taste not recorded.
Spore deposit colour: brownish olive.
Exsiccata: analysis not yet complete.

Spores: shape amygdaloid, limoniform; colour through microscope not recorded; guttulate not recorded; papillate yes; Spore Code: O2; P0; D3.
Basidia: 31.5–34.8 x 8.0–8.2 μm; ave. Q = 4.1; basidia spore nature not recorded.
Cheilocystidia: main shape gently clavate, clavate-lageniform or clavate-ventricose; special features not recorded; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.46; A/B = 1.25; B/M = 1.19.
Pleurocystidia: no.
