Collection 1000002 (herbarium acc. no. K(M)52712) is the lectotype of Hebeloma leucosarx.

Description

    Collection 1000002 was collected by P.D. Orton on 25th September 1955 in Loch Loy, SCOTLAND (approx. 57.58°N, 3.85°W, altitude approximately 10 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal families Betulaceae (genus Betula) and Salicaceae (genus Salix) were present.

    The surrounding habitat was described as boreal, mixed woodland, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     According to the GPS data the collection was in the Koppen climate code Cfb (Temperate, no dry season, warm summer).

    Cortina present: no.

    Pileus: 22–58 mm diameter; shape convex, umbonate; margin characters smooth, wavy; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting no; hygrophanous not recorded; colour variation two-colour; with colour at centre ochraceous; and colour at margin not recorded; with remains of universal veil no.

    Lamellae: attachment adnate, emarginate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 53; tears visible with naked eye; white fimbriate edge present.

    Stipe: 25–90 x 3–11 {median} x 5–18 {basal} mm; stipe Q 7.1–8.2; base bulbous, clavate, cylindrical; floccosity pruinose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior hollow, stuffed; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 10.4; smell raphanoid; taste bitter, mild.

    Spore deposit colour: analysis not yet complete.

    Exsiccata: normal.

    Spores: shape amygdaloid; colour through microscope grey yellow, yellow; guttulate no; papillate no; Spore Code: O1; O2; P0; D3.

    Basidia: 27.2–35.0 x 7.8–8.7 μm; ave. Q = 3.7; basidia spore nature not recorded.

    Cheilocystidia: main shape clavate, gently clavate, clavate-lageniform or clavate-ventricose, ventricose; special features bifurcate; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.41; A/B = 1.32; B/M = 1.10.

    Pleurocystidia: no.

    Ixocutis: epicutis thickness (measured from exsiccata) 125 μm; ixocutis maximum hyphae width 4 μm; ixocutis hyphae encrustation no; shape of trama elements beneath subcutis polygonal.

    Caulocystidia: caulocystidia maximum length 200 μm.
