Taxonomy

Collection 1000340 (herbarium acc. no. MICH 10737) is Hebeloma praeolidum. It is the holotype of heterotypic synonym Hebeloma cinereostipes A.H. Sm., V.S. Evenson & Mitchel (1983).

    Collection 1000340 was collected by H.D. Thiers, A.H. Smith (88733), det: A.H. Smith on 26th July 1978 in Pitkin, Frying Pan River, Colorado, UNITED STATES (approx. 39.3713°N, 106.9264°W, altitude approximately 2500 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Pinaceae (genus Picea) was present.

    The surrounding habitat was described as coniferous, subalpine woodland with a substrate of soil and litter, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     Lamellae: attachment adnate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 36; tears absent; white fimbriate edge present.

    Stipe: 20–40 x 3–6 {median} x 3–6 {basal} mm; stipe Q 6.7; base cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose, pruinose at apex; rooting no; mycelial chords no.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior not recorded; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 7.1; smell not recorded; taste mild.

    Basidia: 28.3–36.3 x 6.6–8.4 μm; ave. Q = 4.4; basidia spore nature not recorded.

    Cheilocystidia: main shape lageniform, ventricose; special features branching, many collapsed in exsiccata, septa; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.02; A/B = 0.65; B/M = 1.67.

    Pleurocystidia: no.
