Collection 1000035 (herbarium acc. no. C JV93-553) is the holotype of Hebeloma aestivale.

    Collection 1000035 was collected by J. Vesterholt (93-553) on 10th August 1993 in Arhus, Forstbotanisk Have UTM NH7420 TBU 21, E-Jylland, DENMARK (approx. 56.12°N, 10.2°E, altitude approximately 55 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Fagaceae (genus Quercus) was present.

    The surrounding habitat was described as parkland grassland with a substrate of calcareous, grassy soil, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     According to the GPS data the collection was in the Koppen climate code Dfb (Cold, no dry season, warm summer).

    Cortina present: no.

    Pileus: 17–58 mm diameter; shape convex, umbonate; margin characters smooth; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting no; hygrophanous no; colour variation two-colour; with colour at centre dark pinkish buff, ochraceous, clay-buff, yellowish brown, cinnamon; and colour at margin dark pinkish buff, pinkish buff, pale pinkish buff; with remains of universal veil no.

    Lamellae: attachment emarginate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 50; tears visible with x10 lens; white fimbriate edge present.

    Stipe: 19–65 x 4–13 {median} x 4–12 {basal} mm; stipe Q 4.2–5.0; base cylindrical; floccosity floccose; rooting no; mycelial chords yes.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior hollow, stuffed; stipe flesh discolouring from base weak; slenderness measure 5.2; smell cocoa, raphanoid weakly; taste bitter, raphanoid weakly.

    Spores: shape amygdaloid, limoniform; colour through microscope yellow brown; guttulate no; papillate yes; Spore Code: O3; P3; D3.

    Basidia: 31.6–32.5 x 7.9–10.1 μm; ave. Q = 3.6; basidia spore nature not recorded.

    Cheilocystidia: main shape gently clavate; special features clamped septa, many collapsed in exsiccata; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.45; A/B = 1.22; B/M = 1.23.

    Pleurocystidia: no.

    Ixocutis: epicutis thickness (measured from exsiccata) 200 μm; ixocutis maximum hyphae width 3 μm; ixocutis hyphae encrustation not recorded; shape of trama elements beneath subcutis not recorded.

    Caulocystidia: analysis not yet complete.
