Taxonomy

Collection 1000380 (herbarium acc. no. TNS F 237315) is Hebeloma nanum. It is the holotype of heterotypic synonym Hebeloma crustuliniforme f. microspermum Hongo (1966).

    Collection 1000380 was collected by T. Hongo on 24th October 1961 in Akiba-yama, Niitu City, Niigata, JAPAN (approx. 40.2679°N, 140.5993°E, altitude approximately 300 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Pinaceae (genus Pinus) was present.

    The surrounding habitat was described as woodland with a substrate of soil, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     Pileus: 25–55 mm diameter; shape convex; margin characters involute; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting no; hygrophanous no; colour variation not recorded; with colour at centre not recorded; and colour at margin not recorded; with remains of universal veil no.

    Lamellae: attachment emarginate; maximum depth up to 6 mm; number of complete lamellae 68; tears not recorded; white fimbriate edge present.

    Stipe: 30–60 x 7–18 {median} x 9–19 {basal} mm; stipe Q 3.3–4.3; base clavate, cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose, pruinose at apex; rooting no; mycelial chords no.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior hollow, stuffed; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 4.4; smell raphanoid; taste mild.

    Cheilocystidia: main shape clavate, cylindrical, clavate-lageniform or clavate-ventricose, lageniform; special features irregular, many collapsed in exsiccata; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.04; A/B = 1.15; B/M = 0.91.
