Collection 1000259 (herbarium acc. no. NYS-F-002715) is the holotype of Hebeloma sarcophyllum.

    Collection 1000259 was collected by C.H. Peck in June 1869 in Rensselaer County, Greenbush, New York, UNITED STATES (approx. 42.6133°N, 73.7312°W, altitude approximately 100 m above sea level - Google maps). No ectomycorrhizal plants were recorded.

    The surrounding habitat was described as not recorded with a substrate of boggy, grassy soil.
