Collection 16781 was collected by A. Montoya-Esquivel (E1643) on 3rd July 1998 in Municipality of Trinidad Sánchez Santos, La Malinche National Park, east of Javier Mina, Tlaxcala, MEXICO (approx. 19.2153°N, 97.9841°W, altitude approximately 3100 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal families Pinaceae (genus Pinus) and Betulaceae (genus Alnus) were present.
The surrounding habitat was described as montane, subtropical woodland with a substrate of soil, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.
