    Collection 1000539 was collected by A.H. Smith (90215) on 3rd September 1979 in Elk Camp, Burnt Mountain, Pitkin County., Colorado, UNITED STATES (approx. 39.1875°N, 106.9352°W, altitude approximately 3000 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Pinaceae (genera Abies and Picea) was present.

    The surrounding habitat was described as coniferous, subalpine woodland, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     Pileus: up to 45 mm diameter; shape convex; margin characters not recorded; viscosity tacky when moist; spotting not recorded; hygrophanous no; colour variation two-colour; with colour at centre not recorded; and colour at margin greyish brown; with remains of universal veil yes.

    Lamellae: attachment adnate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae not recorded; tears absent; white fimbriate edge not recorded.

    Stipe: 60 x 10 {median} x 10 {basal} mm; stipe Q 6.0; base cylindrical; floccosity fibrillose; rooting no; mycelial chords no.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior hollow; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 8.0; smell sacchariolentia; taste bitter.

    Basidia: 25.6–33.6 x 8.3–10.2 μm; ave. Q = 3.1; basidia spore nature not recorded.

    Cheilocystidia: main shape balloon-shaped, gently clavate, cylindrical, clavate-lageniform or clavate-ventricose, lageniform, pyriform, ventricose; special features grotesque, irregular, geniculate, septa; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.48; A/B = 1.48; B/M = 1.39.
